EDINBURGH-based Morton Fraser put in a
strong year, growing turnover by just less than
20 per cent to hit £13.3m.
The firm's public sector department
performed well, winning Morton Fraser the
choice role of sole adviser to the Ministry of
Defence in Scotland for five years.
Morton Fraser faced down competition from
Scottish legal market giants Dundas & Wilson
and Shepherd & Wedderburn as well as the
Scottish arm of UK firm Pinsent Masons.
Other clients in this area for Morton Fraser
include the Scottish Executive and the Office of the Solicitor to the Advocate General.
The occasional lateral hire has helped support
the firm's organic growth. In April 2005 Morton
Fraser scooped corporate partner Austin Flynn
from Edinburgh rival Murray Beith Murray to
head the firm's recently opened Glasgow office.
The banking group also received a notable
boost this year after the firm hired structured
finance specialist Andrew Meakin from Maclay
Murray & Spens.
