COLLYER Bristow's £1m rise in turnover to
£14m in 2005 reflects a mixed 12 months for
the firm.
It faced a High Court claim for its alleged
involvement in a multimillion-pound fraud
against Cable & Wireless (C&W) and subsidiary
Pender Insurance.
The firm was named as one of 17 defendants
accused of breaches of fiduciary duty along
with five former employees of C&W. The case
settled a year later in January 2006.
That aside, the firm had a reasonable year
financially, with the corporate, litigation and real
estate departments all performing well. In
March 2005 Collyer Bristow received a boost
from easyGroup, which hired the firm to lead
its defence in a High Court trademark fight
against mobile operator Orange.
