Ringing in the changes

January is often regarded as the month of abstention, cutting back and slimming down after the indulgent celebrations of the holiday season, and that’s also true of the in-house circuit.

Just this week the SRA started 2013 with a bang by slashing its prosecutions panel from 16 firms to seven in a bid to bring more work in-house.

While this may have left some lawyers disappointed as they returned to their desks this week, the cost-cutting move echoes the SRA’s decision last autumn to reduce its intervention panel from 24 to just eight firms.

Devonshires was the only firm to win spots on both panels and was the very same firm that the SRA turned to late last year when it launched an intervention against City Law.
