Richmond Borough Council set to slash law firm panel

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is conducting a panel review.

The review, which will conclude by the end of the month, is expected to slash the number of firms it uses.

Richmond’s head of legal Richard Mellor said: “We’re looking to establish a ‘call-up’ relationship. We want to get a firm we can go to straight away, which understands who we are and how it can help us.”

The West London borough has a legal spend of £1.5m and has hitherto used firms on an ad hoc basis, Mellor revealed. It has up until now used a variety of firms, including Berwin Leighton Paisner, CMS Cameron McKenna, Devonshires Solicitors, Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, Richard Buxton, Sharpe Pritchard and The Projects Partnership. Preferred chambers include Landmark Chambers and 11 King’s Bench Walk.
