City firm Richards Butler is promoting its head of commercial disputes to the position of managing partner following the shock resignation of its chief executive.
Chris Schulten will leave at the end of the year, to be replaced by Roger Parker. The firm is moving back to having a lawyer at the helm after five years of being run by accountant Schulten.
Parker is a member of the partnership board and currently manages the 60-lawyer commercial disputes department. He was appointed by the board without an election. Commercial litigation partner Charles Hewetson will head commercial disputes.
Parker says: "We'll continue to build on those things that have given us success in the recent past. We need to continue to retain our quality people and build on our people skills; then we need to get more finance and corporate finance business."
Chairman Andrew Taylor says: "[Parker] has risen rapidly, demonstrating a flair for business and people management."
