RGA bags RiverStone counsel for global role

US reinsurance giant RGA International has hired RiverStone Management general counsel and company secretary Catherine Regan as international legal counsel.

Regan will take responsibility for legal matters relating to Europe, South Africa and India, reporting to US-based RGA assistant general counsel Bill Hutton. She will be based in St Louis and work with a global network of lawyers .

Regan will also review the insurance company's panel firms. "As a matter of course, the existing relationships will be assessed," said Regan.

RGA has relationships with UK firms including Lovells, DLA Piper and insurance specialist Davies Lavery.

RiverStone has replaced Regan with her former assistant solicitor Fraser Henry, who will manage a team of five.

Regan led RiverStone's in-house team through the consolidation of the insurer's legal liabilities when it integrated its businesses for regulatory purposes in 2004. The integration won the team second place in the In-House Banking and Financial Services Team category at The Lawyer Awards 2006.
