Robert Haldane had been brought in from Clifford Chance, where he was a partner with a brief to increase the amount of work carried out by the firm on behalf of merchant banks and venture capitalists.
Tim Anderson, head of Reynolds Porter Chamberlain's corporate finance department said the firm had no immediate plans to replace Haldane and had decided to concentrate on its traditional corporate finance work, advising companies.
Haldane, who joins Stephenson Harwood as a partner, said he was pleased to be moving to a firm that was "going places" and was particularly attracted to the greater emphasis on corporate finance at his new firm.
Andrew Sutch, head of the corporate finance group at Stephenson Harwood, said that the move "emphasises Stephenson Harwood's commitment to offering our clients exceptional corporate finance expertise".
