Not discrimination I don't think this article is shocking or discriminatory at all. I think Ms Barlow skim-read it and read in her own assumptions. I'm a feminist and I despise the business world's focus on looks - for both men and women. However, this article is nothing to do with the looks we are born with or those we cannot change (scars etc). It is about looking professional by making an effort to look smart and polished. Anyone (no matter how ugly or disfigured...!!!) can do this. All that recruiters are looking for when it comes to appearance is a sign that the candidate takes their role seriously. I agree, for instance, that light make up is very important for women to look professional. I do not think this is an issue of prejudice, nor is there anything wrong with it. On another note, however, I do disagree personally that people judge others 55% on looks - I think I judge people 80% by what they say, 10% by how they say it, and 10% by how they look.
