MERGED CORNWELL SERVICES Here in Kent the municipal enterprises of the Kent County Council, even tho they provide around £5m a year in surpluses which reduce the Rates, are under severe pressure from a number of councillors of the ruling party and others. Those councillors complain of unfair competition, when it is often the savings made by larger size in purchasing, discounts and work, that promotes the efficiency ; it looks as if there are other motives connected with a visceral dislike of municipal entrepreneurial activity without regard to the merit and savings which occur.
