Good tips, thanks. The problem I am having though is there there are only about 3 firms I really want to work for, but I know it will be unrealistic of me to only apply to those. Last year I only applied to the few I wanted to work for and got nothing (they were not big city firms either) - so this year I need to apply for more. The trouble is when I am asked the inevitable 'why do you want to work for us?'. I think answering 'Because I really want to be a solicitor and you will help me pay for the LPC I can't afford' will not get me far. The whole method of applications seems largely based on luck. I have very good grades, done volunteer work and paid work, had work experience with solicitor firms... what do they want for me?!
