"Uniform severity" of marking - what a joke. Law schools do themselves no favours with grade inflation over the last 10+ years. Who can take seriously a return rate of 55+% of 2:1s? As employers we rely on our own tests. Well over 50% of law schools are kidding their stus if they think they are gettting into decent jobs, if any. Many academics live in their own world and have no understanding of the profession. If you cannot get into a genuinely good law school, forget it and do something else (equally rewarding with your life).
