Actually for many barristers the reality of work is sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day. I would suggest to the author that if you put effort and passion into most occupations you will find the results count for something. The life of a barrister is exciting and rewarding because of the freedom that comes with self employment, the requirement to take responsibility and to maintain integrity, the thrill of practising advocacy and the intellectual satisfaction of grappling with complex legal questions. It is, however, naive and arrogant to assume suggest by implication, as the author does, that it is the only job in which the effort and passion put in changes a client's future. For a start, isn't that what solicitors do?
