If you got onto a City vac scheme then that in itself is a sign that you probably shouldn't be considering hanging up the towel now. Then again, your apparent fixation on the City and readiness to give up now are signs that you should choose something else. Some of those "tiny" regional firms you dismiss often provide training and careers comparable to the City whilst letting you have a life beyond the office door. If you are willing to swallow some pride and apply to the regional firms, you may make it. Then again, you would have to stop looking down on them so much as it will come across in assessment centres and you will be out the door with no TC faster than you can say "magic circle".
