I think she is right: When doing the GDL, you do just study the black-letter law. Isn't it obvious that if you condense three years into one, there isn't time for much else? Having done a law degree and working alongside a number of solicitors who have done the GDL, I can confirm that this is the case. So I totally agree with "lawstudent" and I don't think it was a silly comment at all.
