High Court dismisses claim against Evening Standard as "attempt at extortion"

Comment

Very disturbing case and yet another where claimants and their solicitors think is is fair game to extort money from others. Just been reading an article by Mr Gilligan following the judgement. Another example of the compensation culture in action and the solicitors should be reported to the Solictors Regulation Authority. There are rules against solicitors whose conduct is detrimental and unfair to the rights of defendants. Writing to the defendant inviting them to settle is (in my opinion) claiming something which cannot be properly demanded in a court of law. Arguably a breach of SRA rules. The SRA are currently investigating several similar cases and anyone who feels the same should e-mail them and refer them to this judgement.
