Is The Lawyer run by a former embittered Herbert Smith associate who couldn't survive life in the Herbies bear pit? Perhaps a paralegal who couldn't get a training contract? This publication gives no credit whatsoever to Herbert Smith. The Lawyer runs negative story after negative story about Herbies, unfairly targeting it. Certainly, its treatment on this website is harsher than comparable firms. Herbies has had some turbulence lately but it is still one of the finest firms in the City. Its merger and recent expansions shows it is reinventing itself. Its fine to moan about firing some Corporate associates or saying that Herbies office look like the Department of the Environment circa 1981 but really, this Virgin case is a triumph of the first order; Herbies litigation at its best. It should be applauded as such by the industry.
