Freshfields turns to former lawyers to fill fee-earning gaps

How do clients feel about having temps working on matters they've instructed Freshfields on? Will the temps be charged out at a multiple of what they're paid? Why are these former Freshfields lawyers so readily available for such work? Presumably anyone who is any good is busily engaged elsewhere and not available for temporary back office work.
