I doubt Lord Hope will be applying for two main reasons: 1. According to the information on the Supreme Court website, Lord Hope as vice-president is a member of the selection committee. 2. He will have reached the mandatory retirement age in less than a year (June 2013) after Lord Phillips' retirement. He could apply if he wasn't a member of the selection committee but that would mean they would have to start a new selection process within months of him becoming president of the court. It's not practical!
