Appleby hires founder of Bermuda's Mello Jones & Martin

So so true. Most of the Bermuda bar are hugely inexperienced and provide a woeful service which is grossly expensive - circumstances allow them to bill clients whilst learning basic principles of law on the job. The local partners have little to no experience on key commercial areas such as reinsurance, segregated accounts and pure non-contentious corporate work - all of which their marketing brochures profess an in depth knowledge. This may change now that expats are able to gain equity in law firms .... But until sophisticated individuals en mass arrive in Bermuda to practice, the local bar will continue to be seen internationally as a joke. Just google their law reports to read Cases on the number of clients who sue their Bermuda 'lawyers' over mistakes or financial theft. Or the local paper, the Royal Gazette, which in 2011 reported the number of Bermuda lawyers who had been taken in by an internet scam allegedly rewarding the idiot lawyers with $'000's if they perform a short 5minute piece of work in respect of a Korean divorce!! The public were appalled by the level of money laundering! Delusions of grandeur indeed.
