I completed the GDL part-time this year while working full-time. I'm now 30 and probably slightly above the average age on my course . It was my intention to secure a TC but while working full-time and studying evening and weekends, finding the time to fill out the long applications requested by most firms was difficult. This is one aspect prospective students should bear in mind. I also felt that while many firms demand legal work experience, they ignore the sector knowledge, network and broader business skills a mature candidate brings. Also many use their vacation schemes as platforms to for their training contracts, offering upto 75% of their places to those on the schemes... A distinct disadvantage to mature candidates who are already working full-time. Disenchanted? Not completely, the course was great but not one person I know from it has secured a TC. A number of people have gone on to do the LPC without one as well - madness!!!
