I have to say I don't really understand the point of all this, or of Deborah's role generally. More than 50% of trainees at top firms are women; lots of trainees are from ethnic minority backgrounds. Yes, the odd firm will have a 60 year old partner who is a bit behind the times, but I find it hard to believe that big firms like Ashurst don't promote on the basis of merit / working insanely long hours - so do we really need inclusion managers?
