File sharing – the UK courts discover their power

Comment

Sadly, the efforts by rights holders to restrict file sharing are going to be totally ineffective. Already NewzBin2 are offering a solution to defeat the block BT will be required to impose. So the only real outcome for the media industry is to encourage people who want to steal content to simply use either free proxy servers or if you are stealing on a commercial scale, a paid vpn. The cost of a vpn is $10 a month. Good luck to my ISP (or indeed anyone else for that matter) to know what I may be doing over my vpn. So the real victory in this case is that anyone who wants to steal material will simply follow the hundreds of guides on how to set up a secure, encrypted connection. The contents will still be stolen (and shared), you just won't be able to track or trace it. I'm not sure that was the outcome that was desired??
