This is a typical tactic used by those trying to secure jobs in journalism, art or photography as it allows the person to show off their portfolio. It appears much less suited to a law student attempting to receive a TC, there is little applicable advertising that the student could really place on his website. I would have thought a firm would be uninterested in the additional information, and may look upon such an attempt badly - as it clearly shows his inability to properly portray himself through his CV.
