I think it's fair enough that this guy beat Lucas really. After all, it means that LucasArts controlled every aspect of profit from the movies for 15 full years, a good stretch really. I think asking for a 70 year ruling on it as a piece of art is a cynical ploy really, and I can see why Jackson, Spielberg and the others all jumped on board. They are trying to protect their incomes, which are already astronomical.
