Howrey boss: shedding 60 partners is all part of a cunning plan

Comment

I am glad I decided to leave the firm in early 2009. Signs of decline were clearly visible. In my opinion, the cause is not conflicts. Conflicts have been around for as long as law firms have been around, and others have managed to be successful with it. The real cause is the inability to accept that European partners work and "tick" different from US partners. Applying the "what works in DC must work everywhere" approach clearly does not work. Listening to European partners has never been Ruyak´s strong suit. And referrals to, and integration of, European partners into the firm - total failure. That actually makes it pretty easy for people to leave and take their business with them. If 2010 was even worse than 2009, the firm will really face tough times.
