Holy moly - how will Slaughters explain that one to clients the next time a client asks: 'Which firm do you work with in Italy? Not that one I read about, is it?' Would this have happened if Slaughters had merged with Bonelli and made a single firm as its global rivals have done abroad? Probably not. There's a price that comes with being 'just best friends' - no oversight at all and no power to infuence what the friend does - such as taking seats on boards.
