Focus: Simmons female representation - Lady billers

Comment

Following from the above comment, surely the correct question is not, "what percentage of partners in any given firm is female?", but rather, "what percentage of women who want to become partner at their firm have the opportunity to do so?" This is a much more complicated question, but would produce a more accurate set of statistics. Implicit in that is the fact that many women choose in-house roles, or deliberately reject offers of partnership, for lifestyle reasons. Surely this debate can only be had if all the facts are on the table: for example, we would also need to see statistics around the numbers of women in senior or high-profile in-house jobs, and the percentages of women who have decided to stay in senior fee-earning roles in private practice rather than choosing to try for partnership.
