Senedd counsel’s war on class ceiling

John Griffiths has led by example as must all in legal education and the profession. Social background is still far too influential in firms choices about traineeships. We work hard to recruit students from all backgrounds and raise their expectations. The elite firms, in particular, need to do more to look seriously at candidates with decent 2:1s who did not go to certain schools or colleges and stop relying on specious criteria (one firm recently trumpeted an ability to go on self-funded travel this as one of their recruitment criteria unaware of the potential for discriminatory effect).
