everything said is relevant, but reality is more sophisticated in Russia and CIS specifically. - as to Russia - setting up presence away from Moscow and St Pete is some crazy stuff since up to 80% of the national GDP is gnerated in these two cities, all the main players of all industries have their offices (rep offices) in these cities, thus management is always nearby and no need to go to the Far east to meet any top-manager or whoever it may be to pick up any law firm to advise them.... - CIS - almost all of the countries comprising CIS have Russian-like legaislation with some minor differences, moreover their legislation is less developed, their law enforcement systems are much more corrupted and influenced by state officials, so what's the point of having pain in... not only in moscow bu also in 15 more places.....referral firms is the onl reasonable solution from the cost efficiency point of view.... moreover, companies from CIS countries who may be of any interest for law firms usually have their presence in Rusisia too... the fact that UK law is chosen as governing one for most of the deal made in CIS is true...but now it's changing back to the russian law as the new crucial amendments thereto were intrduced making it more flexible...thus for small-mid sized deals sometimes clients are likely to opt for the russian law to govern them... at the same time....there are small national law firms with presence in other Russian cities..but there is no economical need for the bigger ones to follow the same way....the big idea is that outside Moscow and St Pete clients dont even know that they need a lawyer....it is easier to grease smb hand and to call someone with "powers" to solve the problem....so it is more of a secured money-making than mere spreading of business and increasing a turnover...
