Oh yes - things are definitely improving. The Security Minister said the other day that there is no need to deploy the army as what was happening in Gauteng did not yet amount to a war situation. This is what is being reported in the SA press> 'Johannesburg — UNLIKE KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng did not require the deployment of the army to deal with violence during the elections as the province had not seen attacks between political parties in the run-up to the poll, Safety and Security Minister Nathi Mthethwa said yesterday. Alexandra was hit hard by xenophobic attacks last year and concerns have been raised of an upsurge in violence ahead of the elections. He said the housing situation in Gauteng, for example, had not amounted to a "war" situation and there was therefore no need to have a "stand-by army" for the province.'
