China & Hong Kong
The second region covered in this week’s Special Reports is China and Hong Kong: a true land of opportunity. Asia editor Yun Kriegler speaks to Chinese and foreign firms to find out how China’s continued growth is affecting the legal market. She finds that international firms are working hard to build their presence in mainland China as outbound investment flows show ongoing growth.
But the story goes two ways. Domestic Chinese firms are fast expanding beyond the borders of China, opening offices and forging relationships with firms across the world. And in Hong Kong, law firms have been hiring partners at a steady rate in a bid to build up their capabilities in growing areas such as renminbi bonds.
