The Reed Smith network will unite all its offices under the Reed Smith name on 1 May, with Richards Butler being dropped from the firm's European brand.
Following the January 2007 merger of US firm Reed Smith and the UK's Richards Butler the firm has been known as Reed Smith Richards Butler across most of Europe and the Middle East, and Reed Smith Rambaud Charot in France.
In Chicago the firm was known as Reed Smith Sachnoff & Weaver. Roger Parker, managing partner for Europe and the Middle East, said the combined firm had planned to shorten its name to Reed Smith by January 2009 but has decided to do so early as a mark of the merger's success.
He added: "I believe our clients and the market are expecting this change and understand it. It makes perfect business sense and will make it much easier to promote our international business across three different continents."
