Reed Smith has made its second media-sector partner hire in London this year, taking a partner from DLA Piper.
Askandar Samad, who was a partner at DLA Piper, joined Reed Smith’s media and technology team in London as a partner on 15 October. Samad joined DLA Piper in 2005. He specialises in film and media financing, as well as on film and television production and distribution. Samad has also advised on telecoms projects in Asia, giving advice on commercial agreements and on regulatory issues.
Samad’s hire follows that of Nick Swimer, who joined Reed Smith’s London media practice as a partner in November 2011 from Channel 4, where he was head of legal for governance and regulatory (7 November 2011).
In a statement, Reed Smith media partner Richard Philipps said: “Film finance providers are increasingly looking at financing through pure equity, hybrid-equity or other financing solutions. It’s clear that the needs of our clients are continuing to evolve.
“Askandar’s knowledge of all kinds of financing, and his many years of experience in the sector, will complement our existing film finance team and also enhance our ability to advise clients requiring solutions that span content and carriage issue.”
