US litigation firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has announced plans to expand its overseas network across Asia and Europe following the success of its London and Mannheim offices.
The firm’s City office, which saw revenue increase by 75 per cent last year from £12.4m to £21.8m, forecasts further growth from the European expansion.
‘‘Disputes in this part of the hemisphere are much more international than they are in the states and London is international in its psychology,’’ said Richard East, co-managing partner of the firm’s London office.
‘‘With a global presence it’s inevitable that the possibility for interesting disputes will grow for the London office, particularly in intellectual property and arbitration.’’
The firm’s two-partner Mannheim base will be joined by two more offices in Germany by the end of the year, one in Hamburg and one in Munich, while Thomas Werlen, formerly global general counsel at Swiss based pharmaceutical giant Novartis, will lead a new office in Zurich. Werlen joined the firm last year (31 October 2011).
The firm will also add to its Asian profile following the launch of its Tokyo base in 2007, with imminent plans to open offices in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Aggressive growth in London last year was coupled with a 31 per cent increase in gross revenue across the firm (30 January 2012), an increase that firm founder and managing partner John Quinn admitted was powered by contingent fees and a range of other alternative fee arrangements.
