Olswang has lost one of its rising star litigation partners to the growing London office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.
Commercial litigator Alex Gerbi, who became a partner at Olswang three years ago, has resigned and is set to join the 400-lawyer US firm’s London office next month.
Gerbi said the Quinn Emanuel litigation model, which is based on a conflicts-free approach to disputes, as well as its reputation provided a “unique and compelling platform” in the London market.
“After 10 great years at Olswang I’m very excited to be joining Quinn Emanuel’s growing team in London,” added Gerbi.
The hire marks the continuation of a period of significant growth for Quinn Emanuel. Earlier this year it launched its first continental European office in Germany with the recruitment of a five-lawyer team from Allen & Overy.
The firm’s London office has recently raised its profile with victories in a series of high-profile cases including Re Sigma Financial Corp, UBS AG and UBS Securities v HSH Nordbank.
Quinn Emanuel managing partner John Quinn commented, ‘We’ve been very careful with our London expansion and Alex has the combination of legal talent, energy and ambition that we’ve been looking for to continue to grow our practice.”
