    Flaunting?

  • Improve road safety? Ban cyclists. Jolly good if you knock one down, but then no doubt you'll be sued and lose your licence. But when one of them knocks you down as the whizz through a red light or ride along the pavement, bad luck - they aren't registered or licensed so you can't identify them and even if you could they don't have insurance anyway.

  • Val - You are showing your prejudice. Motor vehicles kill scores of cyclists every year. Cyclists don't kill anyone most years.
There are bad cyclists and bad drivers but it is drivers that kill people.

  • I cycle everyday in all kinds of weather,& yes i am fully insured. As Ted said ,there are bad cyclists & bad drivers.Cars run through red lights too,not only cyclists.Patience is something that many road users do not have.

  • Val - What an appalingly bad attitude, and so much aggression; if you drive with that attitude you are already contravening the Highway Code. When the debate cyclist/driver is raised why are so many drivers keen to shout about just how bad they are at driving.

  • Well done Martin, great to see someone standing up for what they believe in.

I believe we all need to share the road and it's not a suitable place for machismo displays (from drivers or cylists).

It shouldn't be about 'us' v 'them'. Anyway, as someone said to me recently: most cyclists also drive but most drivers don't cycle.

Anyway, time to cycle home (across Bristol, a great city to cycle in). Have a great weekend all.

  • "Flaunting"? Really? In a learned publication like "The Lawyer"?

Anyway, great job Martin! The more people ride bikes, the safer, quieter and less congested our streets become, and the easier it becomes to get around!
