The tagline has long said 'Guinness is good for you', but a revelation from the North American general counsel for Diageo hints otherwise.
Wally Martinez is quitting his post at Diageo, the parent company of Guinness, among others of Tulkinghorn's favourite tipples, to return to Hunton & Williams as the firm's new managing partner. Tulkinghorn's scribe couldn't resist a chuckle at the following exchange between the firm's chairman Thurston Moore and Martinez: Moore: "Wally's position is a fixed tenure, based on such things as ability, competency and life expectancy."
Martinez: "So basically, I've got to get off the Guinness and lose some weight."
Wise words perhaps, but Tulkinghorn isn't so sure he's ready to follow suit.
