Pulling power

Taylor Wessing

‘s annual event, which gives a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘liquid lunch’, took place on Friday 20 July.

The firm’s annual waterski day, hosted, as usual, by senior partner Martin Winter, unfortunately suffered from the Noah-like conditions. Still, what’s a little rain when you’re in a wetsuit? Winter put the day to good use, making the most of extra practice time, which no doubt contributed to his win at the National Waterski Slalom Championships the following weekend.

Lying fifth after round one (okay, in the 45-55 age group), Winter rocked the competition by achieving his season’s best performance in the final round early on Sunday morning. None of the next four skiers were able to match the Taylor Wessing man and he walked away with the trophy. Regular readers may recall that Winter won the same title in 2000 and is the scion of a waterskiing dynasty. His score that weekend also qualified him for the open nationals alongside his wife, son, daughter and, possibly, his dog.
