Lovells helped win Prudential the go-ahead from Manchester City Council to redevelop the Arndale Centre, despite a difficult climate for town and city centre development.
The £100m mixed-use regeneration will add 300,000sq ft of space to the 1.1m sq ft shopping centre. The City Council resolved to grant outline planning permission at the end of November. The proposal has now been referred to the Secretary of State due to the amount of extra retail space involved.
The Lovells team is led by planning partner Michael Gallimore, assisted by Kirsten Hewson. Property partner Michael Stancombe is advising on the property aspects of the deal, assisted by Alison Heppenstall. Slaughter and May property partner David Beales is advising longstanding client Manchester City Council on the restructuring of Prudential's head lease for the overall site to accommodate the new project.
