Proskauer Rose has boosted its ranks in Paris via a merger with local boutique SGDM.
The merger sees private equity partners Daniel Schmidt, who founded SGDM, and Olivier Dumas move across accompanied by associates Mireille Mull-Jochem, Arielle Halim and Estelle Piazza. The group will work alongside Proskauer Paris corporate practice heads Delia Spizer and Guillaume Kellner.
Under the terms of the merger, SGDM partner Thierry Gicqueau has left to form a litigation boutique along with associate Francois Vergne-Beaufils.
Dumas and Schmidt have worked together for 10 years, with the former focusing on private equity transactions and fund formation. Schmidt concentrates on investment fund, venture capital and MN&A work as well as restructurings. He also specialises in taxation issues relating to investment funds.
Proskauer chairman Allen Fagin said the additions are significant as Schmidt and Dumas have strong reputations in the European private equity and venture capital worlds.
"Their addition continues our expansion in the region and the growth of our global private investment funds practice, a cornerstone of the firm's strategy," he added.
Schmidt's presence in the private equity arena stretches beyond his practice, with the lawyer previously serving as president of the code of ethics committee of the French private equity association AFIC.
