Proskauer Rose has continued its London expansion with the hire of funds partner Kate Simpson from Kirkland & Ellis.
It follows the hire of funds duo Nigel van Zyl and Oliver Rochman from SJ Berwin, first revealed yesterday by The Lawyer (27 July 2011). Simpson joined Kirkland from SJ Berwin in 2008 with non-equity partner status and had been tipped as a likely mover.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that van Zyl turned down the chance to join Clifford Chance and was in talks with a number of US firms.
Clifford Chance was left with a gap in its funds team following the departure of four partners to Weil Gotshal & Manges in June (13 June 2011).
Funds and tax partner Mary Kuusisto, head of Proskauer’s London office, said: “Growth in London’s been a critical component of the firm’s strategy to provide the most comprehensive platform of services to our clients. The addition of Nigel, Kate and Oliver is a significant step in furthering that strategy.”
Kirkland funds head Mark Mifsud, who also previously worked at SJ Berwin, said: “We’ve valued Kate’s contribution and wish her well in her new endeavours.”
