Linklaters has made up 28 new partners, a drop of more than a quarter compared to last year when the magic circle firm promoted 38.
As with the other magic circle firms, the bulk of the new partners have been promoted across the firm's international network. In total 12 offices have received new partners with 21 of the 28 based outside London.
Linklaters senior partner David Cheyne, who pointed out that the firm has also promoted 30 to the role of counsel, said the new round of partners and counsel are an exceptional group of people.
"The appointments reflect the breadth and depth of expertise across the firm and highlight our commitment to investing in our practices globally to meet client demand," said Cheyne.
Despite the overall number of partner promotions dropping, the percentage of women has increased by two per cent. Three of the seven new partners in London - 43 per cent - are women.
The promotions cover 11 practices, across each of the firm's three divisions - corporate, commercial and finance and projects.
The new promotions, which are effective from 1 May, will bring the firm's total number of partners to 540. Five of the 28 were promoted from the role of counsel which the firm created last year.
