The head of Morton Fraser's new London office Christian Hook had a rude reintroduction to City life last week.
Hook, formerly of Trowers & Hamlins, was on his way to meet one of Tulkinghorn's scribes when he was approached by one of the lower orders who offered him a gold ringon the slightly spurious grounds that it didn't fit his finger.
"He assured me it was gold," said Hook, who graciously gave the chap a fiver for what was most likely a souped-up washer.
Still, Hook is no novice when it comes to dealing with the great unwashed. As he put it, part of his firm's strategy for opening its own home in the City was to reduce the time he spent "sitting on park benches surrounded by drunks".
That's no way to talk about your partners, Christian.
