A ROLLCALL of lawyers features in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list.
They include the long-serving editor of The Law Reports, Carol Ellis QC, who was awarded a CBE after 43 years of law reporting, and the
former secretary of the Law Society's Civil Litigation Committee, Allen Davies, who was awarded an OBE.
The solicitor to rock star Bob Geldof, John Kennedy, received an OBE for his pro bono work for the Band Aid music charity. Kennedy's award came after Geldolf made a personal request to the Law Society to put forward a nomination.
Among the most prestigious awards was that received by Judith Hill, a partner at Farrer & Co, lawyers to the Royal Family. She was granted the Royal Victorian Order for her services to the Royal Household.
She says she is "thrilled and honoured'' by the award, but is unable to discuss the nature of her celebrated work.
Guildford College of Law senior lecturer Harriet Kimbell received an OBE for her work as deputy chair of the Consumers Association.
Kimbell was one of the first members of the Consumer Panel, established in 1990 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to provide a forum for consumers concerned about food scares like the salmonella and BSE outbreaks.
Other members of the legal profession to be honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours list include: D W Adams, Crown Prosecution Service (Commander of the Order of the British Empire); J N Knox, chair, Lawyers Christian Fellowship (Officer of the Order of the British Empire).
