Presidential treat

Thanks go out to Kevin Martin, outgoing president of the Law Society, for inviting Tulkinghorn down to the organisation’s annual council dinner on 12 July. There were more titles on show than a Lord Levy fundraiser and Martin was on great form, with a farewell speech that brought a tear to every eye in the house.

Tulkinghorn’s favourite moment was when Martin, looking back on his year in office, quipped that if he were to be allowed just one wish for the future, “it would be that Sir David Clementi be retained to carry out a review of the Consumers’ Association, to look at how they’re regulated, who they represent and how their services might be delivered to members in a more competitive and consumer-focussed manner”. Enough said.
