Portugal's Vieira adds Abreu partner to competition team

Portuguese firm Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA) has strengthened its competition and EU practice with the hire of a team led by a former Abreu Advogados partner.

Miguel Mendes Pereira joins VdA accompanied by Abreu associate Sofia Vasconcelos Casimiro and trainee Lourenço Macedo.

Cláudia Coutinho da Costa also joins VdA’s competition and EU practice as an associate. She comes from the cabinet of the former Minister of Culture and formerly worked in the competition practice atMorais Leitão Galvão Teles Soares da Silva.

Until now, the competition and EU practice at VdA was coordinated by partner Nuno Ruiz along with Ricardo Junqueiro, a senior associate.

“We seized the opportunity to improve and extend our practice and Miguel accepted the challenge to join VdA with two associates and a trainee,” said Ruiz.

“Miguel has an excellent reputation in the field, in particular in media markets and IP.”

Managing partner João Vieira de Almeida said: “VdA is known for its stronghold in the competition and EU law fields. We’re committed to meeting the increasing demand for assistance in competition law, EU law and regulation.”
