Portugal's Sérvulo & Associados appoints new managing partner

Torgal, who most recently co-managed the firm’s public law, projects and regulatory practice groups, has been responsible for the firm’s international relations. He was first made partner at the firm in 2005 and subsequently promoted to senior partner in 2008.

Torgal will replace employment specialist Pedro Furtado Martins, who took up the position in April 2011 following the firm-wide decision to switch to a single managing partner model (3 March 2011). Furtado Martins replaced Rui Medeiros and Fernando Ferreira Pinto, who managed Sérvulo’s legacy firms Sérvulo Correia & Associados and Ferreira Pinto & Associados, respectively. The firms merged in November 2007 (5 November 2007).

Commenting on his appointment, Torgal said that he was “aware of the current serious difficulties Portugal is facing”, but also has “complete confidence in the outstanding quality of the Sérvulo team and in its ability to deal with the challenges presented by the national and international markets.”

In December 2011 Sérvulo signed a partnership agreement with Brazilian outfit Manesco Ramires Perez Azevedo Marques Sociedade de Advogado in a push to collaborate on a range of projects, particularly in the infrastructure sector (1 December 2011).
