n A House of Lords judgment is now pending in the case in which conservationists are fighting on wildlife protection grounds to block moves to expand the Kent Port of Sheerness. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, in a case with widespread significance, is seeking to outlaw plans to reclaim part of the Lappel Bank in the Medway Estuary for development of the Port of Sheerness. The case could result in a reference to Europe on the interpretation of the European Birds and Habitat Directives.
