Plexus Law has strengthened its links with insurance giant QBE by acquiring the insurance practice of Whitfield Hallam Goodall.
The Yorkshire-based firm sits on QBE’s legal panel, which is due to be reviewed in the New Year.
Plexus senior partner Tim Oliver said: “This is a very well-respected specialist team; it further builds on our strategy to build up a series of specialist subjects.”
The firm’s Leeds office will be joined by three partners comprising personal injury lawyers Douglas Metcalfe and Richard Bramall and employment lawyer Paul Whitfield.
The move follows the launch of Plexus’s Manchester office, which came on the back of a raid on Halliwells for partner trio Chris Gough, Tim Short and Louise Shaw (The Lawyer, 9 November).
In September the firm acquired insurance boutique Squire & Co. Six partners transferred to the volume defendant firm as part of the deal, including senior partner Nick Squire.
Oliver said the firm would spend much of 2010 building up specialist practices through acquisitions of teams and small firms. “It’s just astounding how much movement there is in the market,” he said.
