20 Essex Street’s Richard Plender QC has been appointed to the list of external legal counsel maintained by the Advisory Centre on World Trade Organisation (WTO) law.
Plender has advised a number of states on WTO disputes, and has appeared as a panellist in proceedings including a 2004 investigation into the US’s measures affecting the cross-border supply of gambling and betting services.
Plender specialises in European Community law, and last year represented the UK in the key European tax case involving Marks & Spencer.
The Advisory Centre was established in 2001 by the WTO in order to increase access to justice for WTO cases. The centre provides legal aid, subsidised by member states, to countries which could otherwise not afford to fight a WTO case.
